On March 25th, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, H.E. Cai Jinbiao held a press conference on the Lhasa riots in the Chinese Embassy in Suva. Dozens of journalists from the local media including Fiji TV, Radio Fiji One, Fiji Times, Fiji Sun, Islands Business International Multimedia and etc. were present. Amb. Cai briefed the media on the serious criminal acts of violence involving beating, destruction of property, looting and arson that took place in Lhasa, capital of China's Tibet Autonomous Region, on March 14. A documentary of the riots was shown to the media at the press conference. Amb. Cai said that the serious criminal acts of violence in Lhasa were committed by a small number of rioters. It is premeditated, organized and instigated by the Dalai clique, and perpetrated by the separatist forces for "Tibetan Independence" both in and outside China acting in collusion. In order to protect life and property of the Tibetan people, the Government of Tibet Autonomous Region has taken effective measures to deal with the criminal acts. In responding to the incident, the Chinese public officers and armed policemen showed great restraint, and did not use lethal weapons to the rioters. The documentary video truthfully recorded the criminal acts of the rioters. Ambassador Cai points out that the Dalai clique spared no efforts in provoking the incident, and even causing bloodshed during this sensitive period, which clearly showed their political attempts to ruin the political situation of social harmony, stability and unity as well as to disrupt the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Amb. Cai emphasized that the Chinese Government unswervingly upholds state sovereignty and territorial integrity. It stands firm in building a stable Tibet that is progressing, and ensuring the safety of life and property of all ethic groups there. The development and progress of Tibet is irreversible. Any attempt to split the motherland is definitely to be opposed by the Chinese people of all ethnicities including the Tibetan compatriots and is doomed to failure. Amb. Cai urged the media in Fiji to proceed from the facts of the riots, see through the vicious aim of the Dalai clique, and report the riots in an impartial and objective manner, not sending any misleading information to the public. Amb. Cai also answered questions concerning the current situation in Tibet, the Beijing Olympic Games and etc. |
