Chinese Ambassador Cai Jinbiao Attends the Fund-raising Evening of the Chinese Associations in Fiji
2008/03/15

On March 8th, 2008, the Fijian Chinese communities and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Fiji jointly held a dinner party at Suva, the capital of Fiji, to celebrate the International Women's Day and raise charity fund for China's snow-ravaged provinces. The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, H.E. Mr. Cai Jinbiao and his wife attended the dinner. Some 200 guests were also present at the event.

Amb. Cai wished all the ladies present a happy International Women's Day and briefed the guests of the situation of the snow-hit areas in China. He said that the Chinese government, attaching great importance to the snow disaster areas, had actively organized the disaster relief campaign. The Chinese people were working tirelessly in overcoming difficulties caused by the disaster. At present, production and life in the disaster-hit areas were returning normal.

Amb. Cai said though most of the local Chinese in Fiji were not very rich due to the difficult economic situation in the country and damages caused by the Tropical Cyclone Gene not long ago, they showed so much care to their compatriots afflicted by the snow disaster in China, and tried their best in rendering assistance. This was a clear indication that "A friend in need is a friend in deed". On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Amb. Cai expressed sincere appreciation to the local Chinese in Fiji.

Mr. Yuan Bingtang, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification in Fiji and Mr. Wang Houyun, President of Association of the Chinese Enterprises in Fiji, said that the overseas Chinese in Fiji had followed closely the snow disaster in China and worried about their compatriots in the disaster areas. All they can devote in Fiji was to do their bits in raising funds. They wished the people in the snow-hit areas a speedy recovery from the disaster.
